Game editions and DLC

Main article: Downloadable content for Just Cause 4.

Just Cause 4 is a confusing mess of numerous different editions. See Downloadable content for Just Cause 4 for a list of all editions and their included content. If you’re looking for Just Cause 4 with all DLC, get the Complete Edition, not the «Gold», «Digital Deluxe» or «Reloaded» editions.

Unlike with JC3, there didn’t seem to be a disk edition of the PC version. Looking hard enough, it was possible to find at least 1 site that lists a PC DVD version, but all other sites have JC4 listed as a «download», or as a «Steam code». The console versions, however, were pictured as the box/disk version at most online stores.

Expansion Pass

The game has 3 expansion packs (similarly to Just Cause 3 expansions) called «Dare Devils of Destruction», «Los Demonios» and «Danger Rising».

Originally Steam listed the DirectX as 11.1, but this was later changed to just 11. At the same time, they removed 4K requirements completely.

Description

Stunts (see improvised stunts) have always been a major part of the Just Cause game series. As of JC4 they are actually needed for 100% settlement completion. Region strikes will occupy the region, but doing all the stunts will mark the settlement as «complete». Previously liberations filled the purpose of «completing» settlements.

Stunts are assigned by Garland, who needs Rico to perform daredevil stunts for her movies. Doing stunts not only «completes» a settlement but gains Garland points as well. These points can be used to upgrade the grappler’s booster mods.

While most of them are easy enough, some of them require careful timing and precise setup. And in some cases, some are unavailable until a vehicle is unlocked in supply drop. There are 124 wingsuit stunts, 185 speed stunts, and 127 vehicle stunts for a total of 436 stunts across Solís. Without mods to facilitate the process (such as additional wingsuit boost for wingsuit stunts, faster vehicles for speed stunts and vehicle spawners for vehicle stunts), it would take dozens of hours to complete all stunts.

Mission structure

The mission structure is completely different in this game compared to previous games.

In order to progress the storyline and unlock storyline missions, the player must complete base take-over missions. These unlock the ability to capture more area of the map and to unlock storyline missions.

The main storyline missions are called «operations». Each operation has a few setup missions that lead up to the big operation mission. The storyline starts as a single story and then splits into three branches. Once the branching missions are complete, each with their culminative «operation», the storyline ends with the conclusive missions.

There are four sets of sidemissions for different bosses, similar to JC2, however it seems that after the first of each line, these missions do not have to be done in a specific order. Instead these missions become unlocked in random order depending on how the player chooses to take over the map. Some of these missions unlock depending on a number of points with the specific boss, but they can still be completed in any order.

At the same time, there’s a few points where the main storyline and the side stories cross paths by one unlocking one another.

Предыстория игрового мира

Действие Just Cause 4 развивается в Солисе – вымышленной стране Южной Америки, оккупированной силами частной венной компании «Черная Рука», самой сильной и крутой на планете. Наемники появлялись и в предыдущих частях серии, но впервые игрок посетит их базу и штаб-квартиру.

Солис разделен на четыре региона, у каждого свой тип местности, природные условия, животные и типы врагов. За счет этого геймплей серьезно меняется – жаркая пустыня, влажная сельва или гористая заснеженная местность требуют выработать подходящий стиль игры.

Также каждый биом имеет свою систему погоды и экстремальных погодных условий, например, в песках случаются песчаные бури, а в горах – метели, а сельскохозяйственную равнину сотрясает торнадо.

Эпилог

Каждая отдельно взятая миссия – это очень опасное задание. Можно стрелять, можно совершать невероятные трюки в воздухе, но вот только с каждым уровнем игры врагов становится все больше и больше, поэтому без сподвижников просто не обойтись в игре!

Особенности Just Cause 1

The Lost Tomb of Otorongo	Find and unseal all tombs.	Javi calls Rico immediately after the last tomb is unsealed. Javi finally has all lines from Otorongo’s riddle. He has assembled them into a short poem that reveals the location of Otorongo’s grave: Quya.
The following three random encounters are available at multiple locations and do not have to be done.
A Relic To Wreck	Complete The Secret History of Solís.	It’s about destroying a vehicle that transports a fake relic. Alternatively, just drive the vehicle into the water to complete it as well.
A Precious Cargo	Complete The Secret History of Solís.	Drive the provided vehicle to the marked area. No time limit and nobody chasing.
A Crate Quandry	Complete The Secret History of Solís.	Get in the Próspero Sky Crane or Armadillo Crane Truck and attach the magnet to the crate. Then deliver it to the drop off point.

Sargento missions, training Army of Chaos recruits

Training: Dish Destruction	«Black Hand spies are hijacking weather equipment to spy on Army of Chaos movements throughout Urqu Verde. Help the trainees destroy the equipment.» Destroy some radar dishes. You’re provided with a Dropzone Chopper.
Training: Drone Activity	«The Army of Chaos is tracking increased Drone Activity on Altoyaku. Take some trainees and investigate the area.» Drive around with two Army of Chaos members, killing several Black Hand commanders along the way. Eventually you’ll get to some village where you have to kill a Black Hand colonel. This mission was once known as Drone Training.

Soundtrack and music

Just Cause 4 has many different soundtracks. They are used in different times of the game. The soundtracks can be divided into five main categories:

• Combat music. This is a collection of dramatic action songs that are played during heat and sidemissions including region strikes and Sargento, Garland and Javi sidemissions. Most of these are electronic songs.
• Exploration music. This is a collection of calm songs that are played when the player doesn’t have any heat, is not doing any missions and is flying around in his wingsuit (without heat). The songs also play when hoverboarding without heat.
• Special mission music. These are unique songs that are played during main storyline missions. Operation Thunderbarge, Windwalker, Sandstinger and Illapa all have unique soundstracks that are only played when the player plays these said missions. These are similar to combat music, but are unique and play only in missions.
• DLC music. This is a collection of songs that are played when the player is in areas added by DLCs or is playing DLC missions.
• Other. All other soundtracks fall into this category. Songs include ones that are played during specific loading screens, cutscenes and credits.

In-game radio

JC4 is the first game in the series to have radio stations in vehicles. These stations each play a selection of about 10 different items of music and they have some DJs talking. Solís Hoy is a news channel that discusses news and local rumors. The content of this channel changes throughout the storyline.

Setting and plot

The new nation is Solís, located in South America. The game takes place after the events of Just Cause 3.

Rico travels to Solís to discover the truth about the circumstances of his father’s death. Rico’s mother was from Medici and his father was from Solís.

Solís is the homeland of the Black Hand, and as such, they rule Solís with a very militaristic regime. The Black Hand has also become an even more powerful enemy as they have obtained advanced weather-manipulation technology from the eDEN Corporation (Downloadable content for Just Cause 3) and continued to develop it themselves.

Having arrived at Solís, Rico will start his own rebellion, called the Army of Chaos, to overthrow the Espinosa Dynasty rule and to fight the Black hand and start the Solino Civil War, eventually resulting in the liberation of all of Solís. The Black Hand itself is commanded by Gabriela Morales, who believes herself to be similar to Rico and that Rico is dangerous because of their similarity.

Rico helps an archaeologist named Javi Huerta uncover the truth about the history of Solís and about the Espinosa Dynasty (who have been a central part of the history of Solís). There’s evidence of many crimes and cover-ups.

It has also been explained in the «Just Cause 4: All About Narrative » trailer that the storyline is now more broken up and less dependent on missions. The player is no longer expected to get all mission/story information from cut-scenes. Instead, the player learns a lot of the story information from exploring the environment and piecing the information together. Also, this time it won’t be completely clear who is «good» and «bad», because of the layered intentions of the factions. See the Category: Just Cause 4 Missions for a list of all missions.

The plot thickens a lot as The Agency becomes a new enemy by the end. Details would be a major spoiler (see missions Operation Thunderbarge and Operation Illapa) and this was later expanded upon in the Danger Rising expansion pack. At the end of the storyline Rico and Tom Sheldon team up to take down The Agency.

Feats

These are random gameplay things that the game constantly tracks. They can be seen in the game’s pause menu, next to the map and supply drop.

Players can see their own score there and the cores of their «friends» from the Steam friends list, or equivalent console sites. As of October 4th, 2019, three of these scores were updated to show the high scores of Alexis from the game’s development team. Beating all the scores by Alexis rewards the player with an additional parachute skin. A similar set of 3 high scores was set in November 2019 by someone named David. Most recently, three scores for the dev Steve have also been set. These are not standing world records. They are entry-level records set by game developers for players to beat.

Just Cause 4 was officially announced by Square Enix at the Xbox E3 conference on June 10th. The game was released on December 4th, 2018.

This is the sequel to Just Cause 3, released in 2015, three years and three days prior to the release of this game.

Should there be a Just Cause 5, that game would likely be the sequel to this game.

Just Cause: Mobile was announced in December 2020, making that game the next game in the series after this one, but it was stated Just Cause: Mobile was not a direct sequel to this game.

Используя гаджеты, Рико может не только быстро перемещаться, но и стрелять из разных позиций. В этой связи искусственный интеллект врагов стал умнее и смертоноснее, не давая игроку расслабиться. Garland King’s New Star	Complete Behind the Lines.	Rico meets Garland who asks him to help her movie project by being her main stuntman. She also needs Rico to help her fake her death to avoid the troublesome paperwork and permits that would otherwise hinder her movie project.
The following 4 scenes can be completed in any order. They can even be done if the region is not liberated. Note: The unlock requirements are exactly as stated in-game, even if they are improper English.
Scene: Axman’s Juggernaut	Earn 3500 GARLAND Credits.	This mission involves Rico doing stunts and driving around the alpine region in an F1 car. This also unlocks the Mugello Farina Trio. There are Black Hand roadblocks among other obstacles.
Scene: Vanessaaaa!	Earn 6000 GARLAND Credits.	Race a Coyle Mambo in the desert and drive off a bridge.
Scene: The Dawnflower	Earn 1500 GARLAND Credits.	Drive a buggy to deliver a flower that will cure some girl of an unknown illness.
Scene: Jewel In The Sun	Earn 3500 GARLAND Credits.	Race a 2019 Vistosa Supercar against a stuntman to re-enact a supposed race against Mario Frigo.
After the above 4 are complete, Cut During The Chase is unlocked.
Cut During The Chase	Complete all of the above «scene» missions.	Drive Garland to the movie premiere.
Most of the below random encounters can take place anywhere.
Car on Car	Complete Garland King’s New Star.	This reoccurs at multiple locations and only when Rico is already in a vehicle. Garland says that there’s a stuntman in a nearby vehicle and you have to destroy their vehicle. And you have to stay in the vehicle, because apparently it would otherwise be an editing nightmare.
Lose the Fuzz	Complete Garland King’s New Star.	Rico has to take a provided sports car (usually a Verdeleon Eco, 2019 Vistosa Supercar, or Kerner 16′ Vigeur) and out-drive the Black Hand. This is needed because they’re filming a chase sequence, so they tipped off the Black Hand about Rico’s position.
Camera-Ready	Complete Garland King’s New Star.	One of the film crewmen at Aeropuerto General Benitez wants you to fly a EM-909 Private Jet across the sea to Quya. The target is close to the ground and the plane does not need to survive. This can happen anywhere with any vehicle.
Wire Action	Complete Garland King’s New Star.	A stuntman is standing on a beach, or dock. There’s a speedboat near him, driven by a person from the film crew. The stuntman wants to be grappled to the boat. Garland King calls too and explains that the Black Hand confiscated some of their cable equipment. The mission passes when the person is grappled to the boat. Alternatively, the mission may be set inland and involve a helicopter, but the dialogue is the same.
Driving Mr. Hong	Complete Garland King’s New Star.	Henry Hong is a location scout. He’s worked for Garland for 10 years and started as a stuntman. Apparently he used to be called «Invincible Mr. Hong».
On Location, ASAP!	Complete Garland King’s New Star.	This one involves moving a crate to some place via a Próspero Sky Crane. So far this has been seen outside of Nueva Voz and at one small desert town. The helicopter may be a provided vehicle, but really the mission doesn’t require it. Another version of the mission provides the Armadillo Crane Truck.
Cyclone Cinematography	Complete Garland King’s New Star.	Near a tornado, one of Garland’s PAs spawns somewhere close to it with a car and wants Rico to drive into it instead of them.
Stunt Launch	Complete Garland King’s New Star.	A stunt person is standing near two big sticks. They want to fly, so the player has to use the grappler to try to launch them. The mission passes even if the player fails to release the grappler at the right moment.
