Gameplay[]
Single-player
Space Marine includes a linear single-player campaign estimated at around 12–15 hours of playing time. The player controls a single character, Captain Titus of the Ultramarines 2nd Company, through a plot involving an Ork invasion of an Imperial Forge World and later a Chaos invasion on top of it.
…
Player versus player
The three Space Marine MP classes
The Chaos MP classes face off vs. Space Marines
Space Marine features online multiplayer gameplay with opposing teams of eight Space Marines and eight Chaos Space Marines. The multiplayer mode is class-based, allowing players to choose from three classes:
- Tactical (Space Marine and Chaos Space Marine)
- Devastator (Havoc)
- Assault (Raptor)
Players can further customize their character with weapon and perk choices as well as cosmetic appearance with the Customizer.
At the time of release, there are two multiplayer modes available:
- Annihilation — a typical «team deathmatch» game mode where the first team to score 41 kills wins the match
- Seize Ground — a «domination» type game mode where each team must work together to capture and hold specific points on the map
Co-operative
Space Marine will feature a co-operative four-player arena mode called «Exterminatus», to be added as free DLC in October 2011. Four players jump into an arena and face off against waves of enemies until they defeat all the waves or die trying.
Exterminatus has two missions to play, each comprised of multiple arenas, which in turn break down into several waves. To get through each mission the players must survive to activate a key part of each arena, triggering a sequence that grants access to the next. Additional objectives appear randomly, awarding on-the-fly bonuses if completed.
History
Veteran Sergeant Zhyr of the Red Scorpions Chapter.
Sergeant is an honoured rank amongst the Space Marines, a title and responsibility awarded in recognition of those Astartes who have proven their mettle in the heat of battle time-and-time-again.
These select individuals are singled out and awarded the title of Sergeant, along with the privilege of leading a squadron of their Battle-Brothers into the fires of war. Sergeants undergo additional special training in leadership and tactics.
They are the Astartes leaders primarily responsible for executing the Chapter’s missions and for training their squad members so that they are prepared to execute their operational functions at a moment’s notice.
In battle, a Sergeant has the option to use a variety of weapons, with most opting for a Bolt Pistol and Chainsword combination. The Sergeant may have fought enough battles to qualify as a Veteran.
Such Veterans are often promoted to special command duties or transferred to the vaunted ranks of their Chapter’s elite 1st Company.
Such is the experience wielded by the Sergeants of an Astartes squad that their seniority and authority is second only to that of their company’s Lieutenants and commanding Captain. It is not unusual for a senior Sergeant to be given command over several other squads at the battle’s onset, allowing the company Captain to focus his strategic and tactical acumen on a particular area of the conflict rather than dissipating it across the battlefront.
Should the Captain be slain or otherwise eliminated, command of the strike force automatically and seamlessly passes to the most senior Sergeant unless a Lieutenant is present.
Only a foolish enemy would think this to their advantage however — any shortfall in experience a Sergeant has in comparison to his fallen Captain is more than made up for by the newfound determination he possesses to avenge his fallen commander.

Creation of new Chaos Marines
The Chaos Marines still maintain the process of gene-seeding — the transformation of humans into superhumans through organ implantation and associated psychological and chemical conditioning — in order to create new Chaos Marines. The children that are turned into new Chaos Marines are bred from slave stock and captives acquired from raids on Imperial worlds. The process is a brutal ordeal, differing from the carefully measured program of development used by Imperial Space Marines.
In every Legion, Apothecaries, or their Chaos Marine equivalents, are still charged with the important task of retrieving the gene-seed organs from their fallen brethren.
Two Unknown Legions
Main article: Two unknown legions
While the nine «Excommunicate Traitoris» Legions are known to the Imperium as the Traitor Legions, of the 2nd and 11th Legions no records remain, including of which side they took during the Horus Heresy. The history of the Dark Angels during the Heresy is similarly known only to themselves, and possibly the Emperor. Therefore, excluding the role of the Dark Angels, there were at least nine, and as many as eleven Legions who took the side of Horus.
Recent writings have shown that the two unknown legions were lost prior to the Heresy. They are referred to as the forgotten and purged. It is rumoured by some members of the Word Bearers Legion that the Astartes from one, if not both, of these unknown Legions were inducted into the Ultramarines after their Primarchs were ‘forgotten’. An oath was sworn by the Primarchs to never speak the names of their two lost brothers. The loss of the 2nd and 11th sons grieved Lorgar deeply.
Системные требования Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine
Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine:
Windows XP, Процессор: Intel Pentium Dual Core E2180 2.0 Ghz, 1 Gb ОЗУ, 20 Gb HDD, Nvidia GeForce 7800 GT Видеопамять: 256 Mb

Каждому геймеру следует хотя бы немного разбираться в комплектующих, знать, зачем нужна видеокарта, процессор и другие штуки в системном блоке.
Selection
Recruits are chosen from the best warriors among humanity. Naturally this makes Death and Feral Worlds prized recruitment grounds, as such harsh and primal conditions produce the best warriors. However hive worlds are considered the ideal source of potential recruits, the populace of the lower levels composed of some of the most murderous scum in the human Imperium. Whole gangs of hive scum are sometimes hunted down and captured for recruitment. Among the most valued traits in a recruit are aggression and psychotic-level killer instinct. More rarely, certain Civilized Worlds are also recruited from.

Traitor Legions
Chaos Space Marine forces at war
Technically the Chaos Space Marine Legions are the only Space Marine Legions still in existence, the loyalist Legions having been reformed into self-contained Chapters after the Heresy. Though the Legion remains alive to the Chaos Marines as an identifying concept, in reality nearly all of the Chaos Legions have over time been scattered into separate war bands following rival Chaos Champions. It is said that only the Black Legion, Death Guard, and Word Bearers have retained their cohesion as a Legion. On occasion a highly favoured Champion of Chaos, such as Abaddon, is able to temporarily reunite these Traitor Legions against the Imperium.

Gameplay
Space Marine does not feature a cover system, like that used in the Gears of War franchise. As a Space Marine, the player is given enhanced regenerative abilities and an Iron Halo containing a regenerative protective Conversion Field emitter. When the player’s health gets low, performing special kill moves called executions can allow Titus to get a portion of his health back. Titus is accompanied by Sergeant Sidonus and Battle-Brother Leandros, both members of his company’s command squad, for most of the game’s missions, though in some instances Titus will have to go on solo missions. The game features a fury system that, when filled up, allows the player to either slow down time to enhance aiming or perform devastating melee attacks.
Titus’ starting weapons include a Combat Knife (Power Sword if the game was preordered through THQ), and a Bolt Pistol, though the player can acquire other weapons ranging from Plasma Guns and Lascannons to the mighty Thunder Hammer. The game includes a new weapon not featured in the actual table-top game known as the Vengeance Launcher, which can shoot mines that stick to enemies.
The main antagonists the player must fight in the game are the Orks and the Forces of Chaos. The Orks are a hulking, green-skinned alien race whose sheer numbers and savage ferocity make them a devastating opponent. However, the Forces of Chaos present a far more serious threat to the Imperium of Man, as they can literally extinguish the life of whole star systems by summoning limitless amounts of daemonic horrors that flourish in the parallel universe known as the Warp. Warp portals conjured by the Traitor Legions allow the daemons to cross over into realspace.
History
Captain Titus faces the Ork invasion of the Forge World of Graia.
Over the course of his long service, Titus has overcome countless opponents and suffered many wounds, both physical and psychological. In his early days as an Astartes, he struggled to overcome his own temper.
Later, he survived the death of his entire squad at the hands of a Chaos Sorcerer; Titus killed this corrupted servant of the Ruinous Powers, but suffered grievous wounds in the course of the battle — and some in the Chapter have questioned how he survived, intimating that he himself may have been touched by the corruption of Chaos.
Titus became the Ultramarines 2nd Company’s commander when his former captain died in battle. He was by his mentor’s side when he fell, and still feels the weight of taking over his mantle of command.
Titus faced his greatest test when he and his company of Ultramarines were sent to the Adeptus Mechanicus Forge World of Graia in the Segmentum Tempestus to stop an invasion by an Ork WAAAGH! 1 million Greenskins strong led by the Warboss Grimskull. Grimskull was intent on stealing advanced Imperial weapons, including a Warlord-class Battle Titan.
The assault was part of an intricate plan unleashed by the Chaos Sorcerer Nemeroth, the Chaos Lord of a warband of Chaos Space Marines known as the Chosen of Nemeroth, to get his hands on an experimental power source on the world that would allow him to ascend to become a Daemon Prince. Accompanied by 2 members of his command squad, Sergeant Sidonus and Battle-Brother Leandros, Titus joined with the Imperial Guard’s 203rd Cadian Shock Troops Regiment and its only surviving officer, 2nd Lieutenant Mira, to eventually kill Grimskull and halt the WAAAGH!
Brothers Sidonus, Titus and Leandros.
Unfortunately, the Ordo Xenos Inquisitor Drogan, who Titus and his Astartes relied upon for assistance in retaking the world, was actually an undead pawn of Nemeroth who used a specially designed weapon powered by the experimental power source Nemeroth wanted, to open a portal into the Warp that allowed the Chaos Sorcerer, a horde of Chaos daemons and his Chaos Space Marines to come to Graia.
Curiously, however, Titus displayed an unknown immunity to the sorcerer’s psychic powers which immediately raised the suspicions of the highly orthodox Leandros to his commander’s possible corruption.
Following the death of his old friend Sidonus at Nemeroth’s hand, Titus hunted down the foul Chaos Sorcerer and slew him just as he was in the throes of the ascent to daemonhood, banishing his dark soul back to the Warp for punishment by his Dark Gods.
Unfortunately, after saving Graia, Captain Titus was taken into custody by the Inquisition’s Inquisitor Thrax and his retinue of Black Templars Space Marines on suspicion of heresy after Leandros reported his captain for both his resistance to Nemeroth’s sorcery and his multiple deviations from the Codex Astartes held sacrosanct by all Ultramarines. His current fate is unknown.
Chapter Variant Ranks
It is common in many Chapters of Space Marines to refer to their captains as «Brother-Captain» in recognition of the reality that all Astartes, even those of the highest rank, are brothers-in-arms.
Several Chapters maintain different titles for their company captains then the standard title proscribed by the Codex Astartes.
A number of the most notable are described below:

Mark X Phobos and Omnis Armour
The Mark X Power Armour worn by Primaris Marines is a marvel in design — a modular, adaptable system of ceramite plating that can be adjusted for multiple tactical roles, from the Phobos Pattern designed for scouting and reconnaissance and used by Vanguard Marines all the way up to the heavy Gravis variant worn by Aggressor Squads.
However, the Phobos pattern eschews a certain amount of ablative covering in favour of agility and speed.
Regardless of its pattern, Mark X Power Armour is designed to attach to a special undersuit worn by each Primaris Marine, enabling it to be fitted in different configurations according to need.
Amongst the Vanguard formations, there is no standard Power Armour style, though Mark X Phobos Power Armour patterns are most common due to the nature of their combat doctrine. However, each squad bears its own unique composition, tailored to its particular need.
The Phobos armour adopted by Vanguard Infiltrators and Reivers, in particular, is this lighter variation of the standard Mark X pattern that offers increased manoeuvrability and quieter, almost silent movement because of lighter armour plating and servo-motors that run almost completely silent.
Eliminator Squads utilise an even more stripped down version of the same Phobos armour pattern, allowing them to operate with maximum stealth as they stalk their prey.
On the other end of the scale are the Suppressor Squads, fire support warriors clad in Mark X Omnis Pattern Armour — a fourth variant of the Mark X that is a blend of the heavier Gravis configuration and the lighter Mark X Phobos versions favoured by other Vanguard Space Marine units.
Weapons
Players will be able to access a range of different weapons. The player’s character has four weapon spots, one fixed and three interchangeable. The fixed slot holds a boltgun. Two weapon slots are completely interchangeable can carry a Stalker Pattern Bolter, melta gun, plasma gun, stormbolter, lascannon or vengeance launcher. In the final slot the player carries a pistol, which has infinite ammunition, and melee weapon. Part way through the bolt pistol can be swapped out permanently for the plasma pistol, while the melee weapon, which is initially a combat knife, can be swapped between chainsword, power axe and thunder hammer. Carrying the thunder hammer comes at a penalty with only the pistol and boltgun useable.
At specific points in the game the player can temporarily use heavier weapons, such as the heavy bolter, plasma cannon and autocannon. While carrying these heavy weapons the player cannot attack in melee and is only able to perform a knock back against opponents.
The player is also able to carry up to five frag grenades.

Appearance
Ultramarines Legion Sergeant Aeonid Thiel, during the Battle of Calth in the early 31st Millennium.
Traditionally, in Codex-compliant Chapters, a Sergeant’s badge of rank is a red skull displayed on their left shoulder plate and a red helmet. The legacy of the red-coloured helm hails back to the Great Crusade and the beginning of the Horus Heresy eras in the early 31st Millennium.
Within the Ultramarines Legion, the red-colouration once meant that the Space Marine that bore it was marked for discipline and censure — a mark of shame.
Helmet colour of a Space Marine Veteran Sergeant as required by the Codex Astartes.
But during the Battle of Calth in the early 31st Millennium this changed, when a lone, censured Astartes named Sergeant Aeonid Thiel used unorthodox tactics and strategy to wage war with all ferocity against the Ultramarines former brethren, the Chaos Space Marines of the Word Bearers, who had woefully betrayed both the Ultramarines and the Imperium.
When Roboute Guilliman led a boarding party of 50 Ultramarines aboard an orbital platform commandeered by the Word Bearers, Sergeant Thiel ordered that the Astartes accompanying him paint their helmets red because the Word Bearers’ traitorous attack had demolished the Ultramarines’ normal command hierarchy and Vox communications had become unreliable.
The Primarch had made clear that he wanted firm and simple visual cues for the chain of command during their assault on the station, and Sergeant Thiel’s innovation was quickly used by other squad leaders.
Following the events on Calth, Guilliman declared that from that time forward, in recognition of the heroism and original thinking displayed by Sergeant Thiel, a red helm would be considered a badge of honour instead of censure amongst the Ultramarines.
In the ten millennia since the Battle of Calth, the Sergeants of the Ultramarines and several other Codex-compliant Chapters continue to paint their helmets red to signify the honour accorded to the Astartes who achieve this rank.
Veteran Sergeants have a red helmet with a white stripe running front to back along the centre of the helm. Veterancy may also be indicated by an Imperial Laurel honour marking or a white laurel painted around the crown of the helmet.
