Мини-игры

Overview

There are many different plants, each with different abilities and special attributes. During Night, sun does not fall from the sky, so mushrooms are usually used because of their low sun cost. In Pool levels, plants must be either Aquatic or planted on a Lily Pad to be in the water. Fog levels are a mix of night and pool levels but also have fog in the level, which can be removed temporarily with a Blover or removed with a Plantern or Torchwood until the end of the level or whenever the plant is removed with the shovel or eaten/destroyed by zombies. On the Roof, plants require Flower Pots to be planted on before planting the actual plant. Also, the roof is slanted to make the levels harder by making most of the projectiles hit the slanted part of the roof instead of the zombies, so catapult plants are used. A Night Roof setting exists, which is where the player fights Dr. Zomboss.

On the top of each seed packets, there is a phrase: «Bloom and Doom Seed Co.» (except in the Nintendo DS, Nintendo DSiWare, Android, and iOS version of Plants vs. Zombies), «BLOOM & DOOM» being a name that PopCap brainstormed when they were looking for names for Plants vs. Zombies.

Development

In August 2012, PopCap announced that they were working on a sequel to their previous game, Plants vs. Zombies, and that it would include «new features, settings, and situations». In a later announcement, the company confirmed that the new game would be released on July 18, 2013.

On June 26, 2013, PopCap announced on their Twitter page that the game would release later than previously announced. On July 9, the game was released in Australia and New Zealand on the iOS App Store and came out worldwide on August 15, 2013. The Android version was released worldwide on October 23, 2013.

Release

The game was first expected to launch on iOS on July 18, 2013. On June 26, it was announced that the game was delayed until later in the summer on the game’s official Twitter account. The game soft launched in Australian and New Zealand App Store’s on July 9, to test server capacity. It launched worldwide on iOS on August 15 and in five days topped the free app charts in 137 countries.

On September 12, PopCap Games soft launched the game for Android in China in Baidu AppSearch and announced that it would be coming to Google Play worldwide later in the year. On October 2, the game soft launched on the Australian and New Zealand Google Play stores.

Concept art

As seen in earlier concept art for the game, the player was going to fight against aliens rather than zombies. This concept is used from another PopCap game, Insaniquarium. Some sketches show plants that did not appear in the final version. It also suggests that Jalapeno was going to be bound to the ground. Some of the plants that have not left the concept stage are: a carrot plant, a small cherry (similar to Cherry Bomb), what seems to be a dandelion, a Venus flytrap plant (that seems similar to multiple Chompers), an unknown plant with a gun and an unknown plant with tentacles (possibly a predecessor to Gloom-shroom).

Plants vs. Zombies: Kingdom

These plants were planned to appear in a Chinese-exclusive game Plants vs. Zombies: Kingdom Edition, but were scrapped along with the game. Some of them returned in Plants vs. Zombies: All Stars. From left to right, top to bottom, translated from All Stars, their names are: Morning Glory, Pineapple, Blueberries, Ball Cactus, Apple, and Pomegranate.

Role

The zombies are «semi-mindless», decaying corpses that have won the Battle for Suburbia against the plants. The zombies have taken over Suburbia and renamed it Zomburbia. The zombies’ leader, the brilliant Dr. Zomboss, managed to beat the plants by contacting his future self and bringing back advanced Z-Tech from the future, including the extremely powerful Z-Mech that gave the zombies the advantage over the plants. The zombies must now try to defend their newly-claimed homeland from the plants. Zombies have made significant advancements in science, construction, and especially robotics, likely thanks to their genius ruler Dr. Zomboss, and also likely thanks to the tech from the future. There are many new robots that can aid the zombies in their fight against the plants, such as Bots like the Gatling Bot, the Uplink Bot, and Dr. Heals, and mobile combat robots such as the Robo-Zombie.

The zombies are playable in Team Vanquish and Gardens & Graveyards as an attacking role, however they take a defending role in Graveyard Ops and Herbal Assault when the plants try to invade their new home. The zombies can also summon Spawnable Zombies to aid them in battle, while also being able to place all-new Bots, which can be used to defend their tombstones.

Currency

This game had four different currencies:

  1. Coins. These were periodically generated by town buildings. Planting a plant in the planter boxes in town costed coins. More advanced plants costed more coins.

  2. Zombucks
. These were dropped by zombies, and were given to the player as rewards for completing quests and beating stages in road-trip mode. Zombucks were used in town mode to buy and upgrade buildings, place decorations, clean up the town and summon zombies.

  3. Gems
. These were purchased with real money, and could be converted to the various resources at a predetermined ratio. Gems were also used to expedite wait times for constructing or upgrading buildings.

  4. Sun
. These dropped in battles against zombies from the sky, and are periodically created by Sunflowers. Sun did not carry over across battles.

Strategies

Chomper has received a few buffs, namely its reduced digest time and increased bite damage, which makes it more effective when faced with inedible targets, particularly Zombie Bull and mechanical threats in Far Future. However, poor performance against groups of enemies still remains a problem to Chomper. In addition, Chomper is also generally inferior to Toadstool, which has a greatly increased range and can generate sun after digesting zombies as well as having the ability to devour Rodeo Legend Zombies whereas Chomper does not.

The player can use disabling plants like Stunion, E.M.Peach, and Stallia against inedible targets first to allow Chomper to deal more damage. Tombstones, surfboards, frozen blocks and arcade machines also count as inedible targets, causing the Chomper to bite them, destroying them in a few bites as long as it is not busy devouring zombies. With mechanical zombies or Gargantuars, you could freeze them right in front of the Chomper, will it can repeatedly bite them, doing heavy damage.

In Ancient Egypt, Chomper is useful against Pharaoh Zombies, as it can devour both the zombie and the sarcophagus in one bite. In Wild West and Frostbite Caves, Chomper is useful for stopping Chicken Wrangler Zombies and Weasel Hoarders from releasing their chickens or weasels. It is also useful in Dark Ages since it can eat Knight Zombies easily as well as boosted zombies from Dark Alchemy.

In Big Wave Beach, it is useful against Surfer Zombie as they can devour both the zombie and the surfboard. It is also useful against Octo Zombies as they can destroy the octopi within 3 bites. In Lost City, Chompers are good choices against Imp Porters as they can devour both the imp and the backpack. In Modern Day, it is useful against Newspaper Zombie as they can devour the zombie, ignoring the newspaper.

Avoid using Chomper against Explorer Zombies and Torchlight Zombies as they can easily destroy it without being devoured. The same thing applies to MC Zom-B while his jam is playing. Also, zombies kicked by Breakdancer Zombies or raptors can highly overwhelm Chomper.

Although, Chomper can now eat 2 zombies before chewing in the 9.2 update. It can easily be overwhelmed by groups of zombies, Try stalling the zombies, to allow Chomper to chew up and eat more zombies.

There is a way to get over Chomper’s weakness of its long chew time. You may simply dig it up while it is chewing and replace it with a new one due to Chomper’s relatively fast recharge time compared to it’s slow chewing time. This strategy is great if the player has one to three of the Shovel Boost Upgrades since the player can refund more sun. However, due to the 9.2 update, Chomper can easily chew up zombies faster and eat more zombies

Интересные факты

  • Художественный стиль для этой игры изначально должен был быть тем же, что и в Plants vs. Zombies Adventures, но в конечном итоге принял более мультяшный художественный стиль, напоминающий стиль Plants vs. Zombies 2: It’s About Time.

Plants vs. Zombies.

  • Gold Farmer — Plant 5 Marigolds and a Gold Magnet in a single level.
  • Face To Face — Complete a level with Digger Zombies without any of them reaching the left side of your lawn.

Spawnable zombies

There are 17 Spawnable Zombies that can be used. To summon a zombie, look for grave dirt piles. The spawnable zombies are used as assistance to fight against the plants in Gardens & Graveyards. Each are considered consumables that once used can not be picked back up. Spawnable Zombies can only be obtained by purchasing sticker packs with in-game coins.

Trivia

  • No matter what type of zombie it eats, the arm hanging out of its mouth does not wear any shirt sleeve and look identical to a regular zombie, as with the first game.
  • The code for it was in the game until the 1.4 update, but was re-added in the 2.5.1 update as a fully functional plant.
  • It was mentioned in Dark Ages — Night 20 dialogue by Crazy Dave. He said: «Phew! Plants shouldn’t eat zombies who eat plants. Except Chomper. He has to. Dude needs the fiber.» so as to tease Big Wave Beach and its return.
  • It sometimes mimics dog-like behavior by scratching its head with its leaves.
    • Impfinity also does this in Plants vs. Zombies Heroes.
    • This is also one of the two Chomper idle animations, the other being Chomper licking his lips.
  • It can swallow Chicken Wrangler Zombies without them releasing Zombie Chickens. The same thing happens with Weasel Hoarders.
  • It is one of the five plants that make noises in the Almanac, the others being Electric Blueberry, Sweet Potato, Sap-fling, and Chard Guard.
  • When it swallows a zombie, it will spew out an eyeball while burping.
  • Its Plant Food effect resembles a vacuum cleaner as it makes the same sounds and its stalk does a pumping animation.
  • When fed Plant Food, if a Pianist Zombie is in the draw zone, the zombie is instantly defeated.
