• Originally, the ninja were supposed to travel back in time to prevent Garmadon from becoming evil, so he had to face an army of snakes and a giant snake, The Great Devourer.

  With time travel, they would see Wu and young Garmadon (with the same hair that would appear on Wu in Season 9, which would also appear on Cole in the movie).

• Several concepts have apparently been kept and used for Season 7. For example, the army of snakes that were to be present in the movie could have evolved to become the Vermillion.
• Originally, the ninja would have their own dragons as in the pilot episodes.
• Ninjago High School would have more prominence.
• Lloyd’s Green Ninja Mech Dragon was going to be red and his appearance was similar to the dragons of the Chinese New Year.

Lloyd: Master of Green

As the legendary Green Ninja, Lloyd is a Master Builder and the leader of a secret ninja force protecting NINJAGO City from the most notorious villain of all time: Lord Garmadon. Crowds cheer the Green Ninja as a hero, but when he takes off his mask they only see him as Lloyd, the boy unfortunate enough to be Garmadon’s son. It’s hard for him to make friends or get through a day at school because Garmadon ruins everything. Still, Lloyd yearns to have a real relationship with his dad.

It wasn’t hard enough secretly being the Green Ninja, Lloyd must deal with life in NINJAGO as the infamous son of Garmadon, the worst warlord ever.

Description

In the game, players battle hordes of enemies with honor and skill as their favorite Ninja, Lloyd, Nya, Jay, Kai, Cole, Zane, and Master Wu, to defend their home island of Ninjago from the evil Lord Garmadon and his Shark Army.

To do this, they must master the art of Ninjagility, which allows them to traverse Ninjago by wall-running, jumping high, and fighting Ninjago’s enemies to improve combat skills. Players can take advantage of the power of the Spinjitzu combat to defend Ninjago together.

The game features eight large, action packed venues based on the story of The LEGO Ninjago Movie. Each place includes its own Dojo Challenge, unique where players can put their fighting skills to the test and fight harder and harder enemies. And with Battle Maps, players can battle their friends and family in four different game modes with competitive split-screen gameplay for up to four players.

Behind the scenes

• Tommy Kalmar spoke about how the goal of this film, from how he understood it, had been to create another LEGO movie first and foremost, rather than working off of the show. Kalmar was not involved with the creation of the movie, nor were any of the main crew members from the show, and it was instead largely controlled by Warner Brothers.
• It was originally scheduled to be released on September 23, 2016. As a result, installments such as the Dark Island Trilogy were created to fill the void of content during 2016.
• No voice actors from the show voice any characters for the movie.
• The ninja’s masks are made of two pieces instead of the usual one-piece masks. This is to provide a way they can make the lower half of the mask move when they speak (much like in the TV show), as the LEGO movie animation style did not provide the same type of elasticity of clothing seen in the show. The same two-piece mask was used for the TV series in the eighth and ninth seasons.
• Nearly all of the ninja’s weapons are different than that of their TV show counterparts.
• In the movie, the ninja don’t use their weapons except Lloyd in a brief scene at the start.
• This is not Lloyd’s first cinematic appearance, as he made several cameos in The LEGO Movie.
• The movie was released on Blu-ray and DVD on December 19. It included the first 11 minutes of «The Mask of Deception» as a sneak-peek for Season 8.
• The movie is 101 minutes long, the exact same runtime as The LEGO Movie.
• It is the second theatrical film with a wide release to be based on a Cartoon Network series after The Powerpuff Girls Movie and followed by Teen Titans GO! To the Movies.
• Like the other three LEGO movies by Warner Bros. (The LEGO Movie, The LEGO Batman Movie, The LEGO Movie 2), not all items are made of LEGO (e.g. smoke, the Ultimate Weapon).
• Also like the other LEGO movies, the filmed often showed movement by creatively using LEGO pieces to represent motion blur. In the production of The LEGO Batman Movie this was called «brick blur.»

  For The LEGO Batman Movie, this was accomplished with large print-outs with images of every brick so the animators could find the perfect brick for each situation. It’s very likely the same technique was used for this film.

• Jackie Chan and his stunt team performed the martial arts for this movie in live-action in order for the animators to create the fight scenes in the most realistic way.
• There was a lot of improvisation during recording, with the actors stating that it «was like the improv Olympics» and «recording with all the other cast members was really really exciting, ’cause you could kind of just play around and see what would happen.»

  Occasionally, the cast members would improvise inappropriate dialogue.

  This is especially evident in the scene where the ninja talk to Garmadon while carrying him in his cage.

• The Czech and Latin American dubs are the only versions with the same voice actors as in the show, except for Lloyd, Nya and Wu in the Latin American version.
• The trailers show Lloyd revealing himself to Garmadon at the bottom of Ninjago City. This was likely a work-in-progress scene as the final version shows Lloyd revealing himself to Garmadon on top of Ninjago Tower after Meowthra is unleashed.
• In the trailers, the songs «Bad Blood» and «I Wanna Go Out» by Taylor Swift and American Authors respectively were used.
• While trailers showed Koko explaining her and Garmadon’s backstory to Lloyd, Garmadon was the one to do so in the movie.
• This was the fourth film released by Warner Animation Group, the first three being The LEGO Movie, Storks, and The LEGO Batman Movie.
• It is the only movie in the LEGO Movie

• Similarly to the TV show Garmadon who turned evil after being bitten by the Great Devourer, he got his four arms and demonic appearance after being bitten by a snake, which had been bitten by a spider.
• He is 174 years old, which makes him much younger than his TV series counterpart, who is over a thousand years old.
• Similarly to his TV counterpart, who in «Double Trouble» threw any serpentine with a bad idea off the boat, Garmadon fired his generals out of a volcano if they had a bad idea.
• In the Ninjago TV series, Garmadon wanted to be part of Lloyd’s life and for his son to lead a productive, good life, but due to his corruption, commits evil acts by impulse until he’s later cleansed of it. In the film, Lord Garmadon is called the «Worst Guy Ever» in promotional materials and seems to have always been willingly evil, plotting world domination when he and Koko were dating. That being said, he does seem to care for Lloyd to some extent, with some promotional materials implying part of his motivation for invading Ninjago City is to get to know his son.
• His flashback variant never actually appeared physically in the movie except in Garmadon’s imagination, imagining if Koko and he got back together to raise Lloyd to have a normal life.
• In the TV show, his counterpart’s first name is Garmadon, and it’s his son’s last name. However, in the movie, the Temple of Fragile Foundations

  This implies that Wu’s last name is Garmadon as well.

  ‘ doormat says «The Garmadons,» implying that Garmadon is his last name.

• He mispronounces Lloyd’s first name as «Luh-loyd.» He says that he would know the right way to pronounce it because he named Lloyd.
• During the time he was trapped in the jungle by the Ninja, it was emphasized that despite being the older brother he looks much younger than Wu, something that also happens with his counterpart in the show, to which his answer is that he «wear a face mask».
• He always wears a blue cloak in the film, but only one set features his minifigure with one.
• In one of the photos in the Temple of Fragile Foundations, he has the same face as Lloyd and the same hair as Cole

  In a deleted scene, he has Cole’s hair from the film.

• According to LEGO.com, his «Element» is Garma Mecha Man. His image in the character gallery is also erroneously an image of the TV series Garmadon 2011 figure.
