Behavior[]

Item entities come from many sources. Some common ones are:

  • The death of a mob or player.
  • A block that is mined by a player, destroyed by an explosion, or washed away by water.
  • An inventory item tossed by pressing the drop item key (default Q on PC, on Xbox, / on Nintendo Switch, on PlayStation) or dragging a stack outside of an inventory window.
  • A container (other than an ender chest or a shulker box) that is destroyed while holding items inside.

The item entity can transfer its items when the player is within roughly one block of it, measuring from the center of where they contact the ground. As many items as can fit in the player inventory, excluding the armor slots and the off-hand slot, are transferred. If any item is transferred, is played. If all items are transferred, the items appear to move into the center of the player. The item entity never physically moves, however, which means it can appear to go through lava and blocks in its path. This can happen through blocks that are thinner than a full block, but also through the shared edge of two full blocks. Unlike experience orbs, multiple item entities can be picked up simultaneously. Dropped items have a delay of 10 ticks (half a second) between appearing and being able to be picked up, or 40 ticks (2 seconds) if thrown by a player, dolphin, or fox.

Technically, the horizontal item pick up range for players is 1.425 blocks (including the ends), counting the distance between the centers of the player and the item. The vertical item pick up range is 0.75 blocks below, 2.3 blocks above (both ends not included), counting from the player’s feet. The pick up range is a box, not a sphere.

When two stackable items of the same type come within 3/4 of a block of each other, they merge into a single stack if the resulting stack size does not exceed that item’s maximum stack size.

Items do not collide with other entities and are only moved or stopped by blocks.

Like other entities, items can be pushed by flowing water and bubble columns, pushed by a piston, launched by a moving slime block, sticked to a honey block, or caught in a cobweb. Items move at faster speeds if ice is placed under the flowing water. When in still water, items float slowly up to the surface.

Items can be reared by fishing rods, costing 3 durability.‌[Java Edition only]

If an item is within a solid block, then it flies out one of the unobstructed sides, or out of the top of the block if surrounded by solid blocks on all sides. It does this even if space below is unoccupied; therefore, it is possible to recover an item dropped by breaking a hole in a floor by quickly placing another block there.

Items visually disappear when the player is about 16 blocks away from them, and reappear when they get closer. This distance can be adjusted by the «Entity Distance» slider in .

Unlike most entities, items cannot be spectated in Spectator mode.

Damage

Items cannot be attacked by players or mobs; attempting to do so simply hits through them. However, they take damage and disappear from environmental or block-based damage such as explosions, fire, lava, a falling anvil,‌[Java Edition only] and contact with cactus. Items have essentially no health, so they are destroyed by the slightest damage, though if set on fire they may remain for a few seconds before disappearing. Nether stars are immune to explosions, and netherite-based items and tools are immune to fire and float on top of lava. Also, some blocks that normally damage mobs, such as magma blocks, campfires, sweet berry bushes and wither roses, do not damage items.

Despawning

Items despawn after 6000 game ticks (5 minutes) of being in a loaded chunk. If two item stacks merge, the timer is set to the item that has more time remaining. The 5-minute timer is paused when the chunk is unloaded. Nether stars do not despawn‌[Bedrock Edition only].

Items that fall into the void immediately despawn when they fall below Y=-64.

Installation

Once you have downloaded and installed Blockbench, you can directly install the Entity Wizard from within the program.

Tip

If you do not want to install the app, or you are using a mobile device like a tablet, you can also use the plugin in the Blockbench web app. Most parts of the program work the same in the web app, but saving files requires a few extra steps.

Adding the Minecraft Entity Wizard

  1. In Blockbench, navigate to File and select Plugins.
  2. Switch the tab to the Available tab.
  3. Locate the plugin Minecraft Entity Wizard, either by scrolling through the list of available plugins, or via the search box.
  4. Click on Install to add the plugin to Blockbench.

Adding More[]

If you want to change another entity’s model, make sure to add a comma after the closing } of “geometry.creeper”.

Pseudocode example:

Don’t forget the comma! (highlighted)

Error. kill. kill 404. Error 404. ошибка 4e4f NO!

Modifying the Creeper[]

Now that we’ve looked at how the Minecraft model format is setup, let’s modify the creeper a bit. We are going to make him have 3 heads, 2 on bottom and then 1 stacked on top, like a pyramid.

  • First, find the geometry.creeper section in Vanilla Minecraft’s mob.json file and copy it.
  • Create a new folder in your resource pack called “models”
  • Create a new JSON file called mobs.json and save it into your new models folder
  • Enter in a pair of {} into your new mobs.json and then paste the geometry.creeper from Vanilla’s model file after the first {.
  • Now, let’s first move his original head to the left a bit. To do this, we are going to change the x component of the origin for the bone named “head” from -4 to -8.
  • Now copy everything in the square brackets for “cubes” for “head”. This should just be the text highlighted grey.
  • Add a comma after the } for the lines you just copied.
  • Paste the lines you copied after the comma
  • Add a comma after the } for the lines you just pasted
  • Paste the copied lines again after the new comma
  • You should now have 3 { } sections in the “Cubes”[] that each have an origin, size and uv object
  • In the first copied lines, we are going to move that head right by changing the x component of origin to 0 from -8
  • In the second copy, change the x component of the origin to -4 and the y component to 26
  • Your head section for the creeper should now look like (new text in grey):

Note that we don’t have to change the UV’s for any of the new heads because we copied the old head’s UV coordinates and we aren’t adding different textures to the new heads.

Minecraft Entity Wizard

Blockbench?

Blockbench?

Minecraft»

Blockbench?

Skills and Abilities

Entity is a pretty powerful God, able to summon clones to gain an advantage in combat. He is able to create green portals and teleport in green smokes. In his debut, he is able to suddenly electrocute desired opponents which are able to instantly knock them in a comatose state. As a Creator, he is shown to be immortal, able to quickly rematerialize his body even after being sliced in half by Dinnerbone, and is also able to perform Domain Techniques such as Domain Protection. He is also shown to be skilled in utilizing his sword. His power level was portrayed in how easily he defeated an Iron Golem Warrior, but sadly he is shown to be weaker than Dinnerbone, another Creator.

Due to the his God properties, Entity is presumed to possess God abilities such as nigh-omnipotence and omniscient similar to Dinnerbone.

Domain Protection

Entity performing his Domain Protection move in Annoying Villagers 59

To perform this technique, Entity dropped his sword to the floor, of which will transform into a liquid substance. Then an abstract hedge of the floor will protrude out of the ground, preventing the invading Creator’s domain to further expand.

Arsenal

Darkness’ Sword: A single-edged iron sword with a unique hilt and blade decorations. It has no special properties so far.

Motion of entities[]

«Gravity» redirects here. For the Minecraft Dungeons enchantment, see MCD:Gravity.

Gravity works differently in Minecraft than the real world, as not everything is subject to the same acceleration. Additionally, there is a drag force proportional to velocity, again dependent on the entity.

Kind Accelerationblocks/tick2 Accelerationm/s2 Drag1/tick Terminal velocityblocks/tick Terminal velocitym/s
Players and other living entities 0.08 32 0.02 3.92 78.4
Players/mobs with Slow Falling 0.01 4 0.02 0.49 9.8
Items, falling blocks, and TNT 0.04 16 0.02 2.00 40.0
Minecarts 0.04 16 0.05 0.76 16.0
Boats 0.04 16 0.00
Thrown eggs, snowballs, potions, and ender pearls 0.03 12 0.01 3.00 60.0

Fireballs, Wither skulls, and dragon fireballs 0.10 40 0.05 1.90 38.0

Starting at an initial upwards velocity , an entity’s velocity after falling for a number of ticks can be given by the formulas:

Drag applied before acceleration:
Drag applied after acceleration:
Note: initialVelocity and finalVelocity are in blocks/tick, and acceleration is in blocks/tick^2.
  1. ↑ Note that when living entities and explosive projectiles are simulated, the drag is applied after the acceleration, rather than before; this is why their terminal velocities aren’t whole numbers while the others are.
  2. Explosive projectiles are not affected by gravity but instead get acceleration from getting damaged.
  3. Dangerous wither skulls have drag force of 0.27.
  4. For living entities that cannot fly, use (ticksPassed+1).

Personality

I can’t take this anymore. I can’t sleep, I’m afraid he’s watching me. I can’t live like this knowing that someone is after me, wanting me to die a slow, painful death. I’m sorry Mom… I love you.
~ A suicide note left behind by John, one of Entity 303’s victims.

Entity 303 is vaguely given a description in the original stories, in which he is described as a cruel, tricky, ruthless, sadistic, cunning, and cold-blooded sociopath who relished in mentally tormenting his victims. He was not afraid of making himself known to the internet, unlike Herobrine in his original story, and even threatened to consume children outside of their parents’ windows, spitting out their bones. He is repulsive, unpleasant, and barbarically homicidal and filled with murderous intent, and loved to see the struggles of his victims, whether it be his destruction of Minecraft worlds or the mental breaking of his victims, he loved to kill and was seen by those who encountered him as a maniacal madman and demented mass murderer.

Although it’s not shown very often to those he chooses to target, Entity 303 has a rather high view of himself and was quite full of himself, arrogant, and egocentric. Entity 303 would declare himself to be «the new Herobrine» and insult him, one time calling him a «pathetic teddy bear» that wasn’t scary even with his white, emotionless eyes. Entity 303 is also incredibly determined in his goals to kill Herobrine and take revenge on Mojang for ruining him.

Even though Entity 303 was an insane maniac, as John, he was a troubled and insecure young man who only wanted to make a bright and happy future for himself and keep his family safe, which he was willing to do after his parents died. John felt incredibly betrayed by Steve when he indirectly got him fired from Mojang and invited Gordon to his house, which led to his death, and swore to take revenge on Steve for being one of the causes of his spiral to madness.

Quotes

Annoying Villagers 43

  • «They’re trying to deceive you. They don’t have your best interest. Think for yourself. Ask yourself. What is true? What is real? Who is the real enemy here? Keep asking yourself this over and over again and remember the truth, it needs no defense!»
  • «Wait for me. I’m come find you. Remember my name. I am-«

Annoying Villagers 48

«I foresee a prophecy. You shall become the bringer of light. A ray of hope that will shine upon this world. Or you will become the very darkness you seek to destroy. For it will consume you.»

Annoying Villagers 59

  • «Why? Why are you interfering?»
  • «What purpose do you have with him? Why are you so fixated?»
  • «I’ll agree for now.»

The Wizard

Once the plugin is installed, you can now use the Minecraft Entity Wizard to start creating your first Entity with the plugin.

  1. Click the yellow banner on the start screen to open the wizard.
    1. Alternatively, navigate to Filter and select Create Bedrock Entity to open the wizard.
  2. Click the Let’s Go-button to get started.

The wizard will guide you through all the steps required to create your custom entity. To navigate the wizard, use the Back and Next buttons at the bottom of the wizard to navigate between pages.

Caution

You can also close the dialog and select Keep to keep your current state and inputs. However, closing Blockbench entirely will discard your input.

Name

The Display Name is the name that the entity will later be called in Minecraft. It will appear in the spawn egg name, in chat, and in other places in the interface. This name also supports translations into different languages.

Note

The Identifier is the internal name used within Minecraft that is commonly used in commands and in other places to identify this type of entity.

Appearance

On this page, you can select the appearance of your entity from a list of presets. The appearance includes model, texture, animations, and sounds. At a later step, you will be able to edit and modify this model in Blockbench.

Note

If you currently have a model opened inside Blockbench, you may also pick this model as your starting point.

Behavior

The behavior tab determines how your custom entity behaves and interacts with the world.

Warning

It is recommended for beginners to use the behavior from the same mob as the appearance, to avoid conflicts.

Appearance and behavior often work hand in hand. As an example, if you mix the appearance of a wolf with the behavior of a sheep (a sheep in wolf’s clothing), you will quickly notice that the wolf in Minecraft does not come with a grazing animation, so it will look like the grass below them just pops off.

Spawn Egg

The spawn egg tab allows you to set the spawn egg that is the item used to spawn the custom entity.

There are three ways to define the spawn egg:

  • Colors: Use the two-color pickers to select the background and foreground colors on the default spawn egg icon.
  • Custom Texture: Select a custom texture for your spawn egg icon. You can create the texture in a regular image editor, such as Paint.NET or Photoshop. The image should be a PNG file, ideally with a resolution of 16 by 16 pixels and a transparent background.
  • None: Do not generate a spawn egg at all. If you select this option, you will not find a spawn egg in the creative inventory, instead you can summon the entity using commands.

Exporting

You have now entered all the information that is necessary to create the entity. The Next Steps tab allows you to select an export method to create a resource and behavior pack to load the entity into your world.

In the Blockbench desktop app, there are up to three methods available to save your pack;

  • Export Packs: Select this option if you just want to create a new pack with your custom entity on your computer.
  • Integrate into Pack: If you have an existing addon that you are working on your computer, you can select this option and then select your addon from the list below to integrate your new custom entity into this existing pack.
  • Export as MCAddon: This option will generate a .mcaddon file and save it to your computer. You can simply open this file to load your addon into Minecraft, or you can share this file with friends. If you select this option, you will not be able to directly edit your model in Blockbench after exporting the addon.

Tip

In the web app, only the option to export your pack as an MCAddon is available.

Important

The Integrate into Pack option is only available if you have a behavior pack and a resource pack already imported in Minecraft. Upon launching Blockbench for the first time, you may not see all available export options. To quickly enable this, you can use the following steps.

  1. Create an entity.
  2. Export to .mcaddon.
  3. double-click the .mcaddon to import it.
    1. If Minecraft is open when import has started you will need to relaunch it.
    2. If it was closed it will launch as part of the export process.
  4. Minecraft recognizes the pack exists.
  5. create another entity.
After this, the third option will be accessible.

Depending on the export option you have selected, you may need to enter some information about the Add-On that the wizard is about to create.

Pack Name

Enter the name of your pack. This name will be used both for the generated file, as well as for the name in the pack menu in Minecraft.

Pack Icon

The pack icon is optional. You can upload an image as an icon to represent your pack in the pack menu. The image should be a PNG file, the recommended resolution is 64 by 64 pixels.
